Gathanji Level II Hospital: 75% complete
Construction of Gathanji Level II Hospital is now 75% complete. The facility will expand access to primary healthcare services for residents in the Gathanji area of Githunguri Ward.
Githunguri Level V Hospital: a 350-bed referral facility
Hon. Muhinja successfully lobbied for the fast-tracked completion of Githunguri Level V Hospital. This 350-bed referral facility is now near completion, delivered through a joint effort between the national government โ the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Health โ and the Kiambu County Government.
Once operational, the hospital will:
- Serve as a specialized referral facility for Githunguri, Limuru, Lari, Gatundu South, Ruiru, and surrounding sub-counties
- Ease congestion at Kiambu Level V Hospital by absorbing referral cases from across the region
- Offer inpatient and outpatient care, maternal and child health services, and specialized clinics
Construction progress
The main hospital block is substantially complete. Finishing works are progressing toward handover, including the utility block, the kitchen block, and the laundry block.
Hon. Muhinja continues to engage national and county leadership to keep the project on track for full completion, focusing on resolving bottlenecks that could delay handover.
Medical camps and free eye surgeries
Hon. Muhinja has delivered four medical camps that provided free healthcare services to Githunguri Ward residents. Each camp brought diagnostic and treatment services directly to communities that would otherwise travel long distances for care.
A partnership with the Kiambu County Health Department and Kikuyu Eye Hospital has delivered free eye screening to residents across the ward, and has funded free eye surgeries for 20 residents.
Legislative leadership on health policy
As Chairperson of the Kiambu County Assembly Health Committee, Hon. Muhinja spearheaded the Community Health Promoters (CHP) Bill, now enacted into law. The CHP Bill formalizes the role of community health promoters in delivering frontline health services at the household level, extending healthcare access into areas that hospitals and clinics cannot reach directly.
Hon. Muhinja also championed a new county eye care policy, which has helped attract donor support for eye health services across Githunguri Ward.
