Over 10 kilometres of new water pipelines
Working through the Githunguri Water and Sewerage Company (GIWASCO), Hon. Muhinja has delivered more than 10 kilometres of new water pipelines. These pipelines now serve Ngochi, Kwa Mukua, Giachumi, Gathigi, Thakwa, and Githunguri Town.
Each of these areas previously relied on more limited or informal water access. The new pipeline network connects them directly to GIWASCO's piped water supply.
A solar-powered borehole at Gathanji Secondary School
A new solar-powered borehole has been established at Gathanji Secondary School, serving Upper Gathanji, Munjeme, and Ikuria villages. Running on solar power keeps operating costs low, reduces dependence on the electricity grid, and keeps the water supply reliable even during power outages.
The Githunguri Town Sewerage Project
Hon. Muhinja successfully lobbied for the Githunguri Town Sewerage Project, delivered in partnership with the Governments of Kenya and Denmark. The project will give Githunguri Town a modern sanitation system, reducing the risk of waterborne disease and supporting healthier, more sanitary urban growth.
Strengthening GIWASCO's capacity
GIWASCO's offices have been renovated, improving the utility's ability to serve customers and manage operations efficiently. Hon. Muhinja has also secured funding to offset GIWASCO's electricity costs — lower operating costs translate directly into more affordable water for residents across the ward.
